Change of Season Checklist for Forklifts
Fall Back & Spring Forward – The change of seasons brings to mind a list of seasonal things to do, change the clocks back, change the batteries in your smoke detector and seal up doors and windows against the cold
If you operate LPG internal combustion engine equipment, you need to make sure your pre-winter check list includes these things:
First, get an engine tune up and a C0 emissions test. The effects of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure from the exhaust gases of LPG vehicles are well known. Symptoms of headaches, nausea and dizziness can last several days when CO levels rise above 250 ppm in occupied spaces. Have the carbon monoxide emissions tested on any internal combustion equipment that will be operated inside a closed building.
After testing the emissions a service professional can adjust and ensure the proper oxygen supply and the burning of LPG will instead produce harmless carbon dioxide and water. Adjusting the air and fuel mixture can control CO emissions in the exhaust. The proper adjustments also ensure optimum power and fuel efficiency.
Second, have your cooling systems checked and winterized. If your coolant system fails, you could be dealing with busted radiators, cracked blocks and heads. These costly repairs are easily avoided. A service technician can adjust the water to coolant ratio to ensure that the system doesn’t freeze.
Thirdly, if you’ve fallen behind on your planned maintenance, now would be the perfect time to get back on schedule. PMs should be done every 200-300 hours of operation or at least twice a year.
And lastly, get free donuts. Yes, you read that correctly (well at least if your equipment is in the JIT Toyota-Lift service area*.) Schedule your November PM Service with us and when our service tech arrives, he’ll bring the donuts. And while he’s there, he can also test emissions, engine anti-freeze and make the adjustments necessary to have your equipment in top shape for the cold months ahead.
