How Sweet it is to Help Feed the Hungry
JIT Toyota-Lift is a Proud Sponsor of Sweet Charity, an annual event that benefits The Food Bank of WNY. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event. It’s the 3rd year that JIT Toyota-Lift has served as a “Main Entrée” sponsor.
Guests of the event will enjoy amazing treats. There will be decadent desserts and delicious food. Some of the area’s best establishments will offer wine and beer tastings. Coffee lovers will find plenty of pleasing offerings, too.
Attendees can expect great silent auction items. How about tickets to see Adele, Bruce Springsteen or Justin Bieber? Other silent auctions include sports memorabilia, overnight stays, entertainment, spa packages, and much more! There will also be a live auction with incredible food, sports and vacation packages.
Sweet Charity 2016 will be Thursday February 4th in the Atrium @ Rich’s, One Robert Rich Way, Buffalo NY.
About The Food Bank of WNY
Each month 116,821 Western New Yorkers turn to soup kitchens, food pantries, and other emergency food providers for help. The Food Bank of WNY has been a bridge between available food sources and these providers since 1979.
The Food Bank of WNY has a critical role in assisting those in need. Their services impact 165,000 individuals each year. That’s roughly 12% of the WNY population. They serve the hungry in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara Counties:
Who are the Hungry?
- 28% are children under the age of 18, with 8% between the ages of 0-5
- 16% are seniors, 60 and older
- 85% are high school graduates and of those, 31% are college educated
- 39% are employed, 33% are unemployed and seeking work and 28% are not working because they are retired or disabled and cannot work
- 27% of the adults assisted are currently serving or have served in the military
- 66% are White, 17% Black or African American, 10% Hispanic and the remaining 7% of the emergency food recipients are from other racial groups
Imagine the needs of a family of four with a sudden loss of income due to a plant closure. Consider the elderly couple, whose fixed income forces a choice between heat in the home or a hot meal. Or a young couple with a special needs child and medical costs not covered by their insurance. These are all common stories among those facing hunger and poverty.
Hunger is a solvable problem in WNY, they just need enough voices to bring about action. If you would like to get involved, call The Food Bank of WNY at (716) 852-1305.
